What started as a small group of friends getting together has grown into a community of blind, low vision, and sighted people from different backgrounds and locations who enjoy friendship, conversation, and fun.
We meet once a month, every other month, or whenever we feel like it. There are no dues, no membership requirements, and no agenda. Just people getting together to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and enjoy each other's company.
What is the purpose of Beta Blinks?

Where are the gatherings?
Most of the time we get together at the Beta Lounge in Berkeley. If we decide to meet somewhere else, we will let everyone know.
Who should attend?
Anyone who wants to attend.
If you are blind, low vision, sighted, a friend, a family member, or simply someone looking to connect with good people, you are welcome.
What is the dress code?
Come as you are.
We do discourage birthday suits. We don't think most venues would be open to that.
What is the vibe?
Friendly, relaxed, and welcoming.
People come to reconnect with old friends, meet new people, share stories, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. If you are shy, don't worry. You can chat with a few people and ease into the group. If you are a social butterfly, you'll find plenty of people to talk to.
How many people show up?
We honestly don't know.
Sometimes it's a large gathering, sometimes it's a smaller group. Attendance varies, which keeps things interesting.
What are the requirements to attend?
None.
This is not a political group, although you are free to talk about politics if you find someone who wants to. It is not a religious group, although you are welcome to discuss religion if that interests you. If you are new to vision loss, you are welcome. If you have been blind or low vision for years, you are welcome. If you are sighted, you are welcome.
The only real requirement is to be respectful of others.
Any advice for a newcomer?
Bring money if you would like to order food or drinks.
Please be kind to the staff. We have a reputation for being friendly customers and good tippers, and we would like to keep it that way.
If you don't know many people, introduce yourself. Most of us were new at some point.
Come to have fun, be respectful, and enjoy yourself.
If you have a big ego, leave it outside.
And if your idea of a good time is being rude to people, Beta Blinks probably isn't the place for you.
